About Equine Assisted Therapy
Equine Assisted Therapy (E.A.T.) is a process of bringing forth life issues through interaction with horses. The horse, being a highly sensitive social creature, gives immediate feedback to the client about his or her behavior and feelings. Horses mirror the clients’ behavior. Negative approaches with the horse produces negative results and positive approaches produce positive, highly rewarding results. This feedback helps the clients discover effective ways of managing and overcoming challenges in their lives.
Horses for Healing LLC's aim is to provide options for children, youth, adults, and families whose needs are not being met in traditional therapeutic settings. We work independently or in collaboration with other providers to help their clients break through barriers and move on to their next level of treatment. Horses for Healing LLC professionals regularly collaborate on treatment plans and provide up to date information with referral sources.
Equine Assisted Therapy is especially helpful in working through the emotional roadblocks and issues experienced by abused and neglected children, troubled youths, and adults who have suffered emotional traumas or struggle with mental health difficulties. Equine Assisted Therapy compliments traditional therapy.
The horse provides immediate feedback in relationship to individual’s actions and behaviors. The therapist assists in interpreting behaviors and feedback as well as guides the individual in transferring this information into daily life. In other words, E.A.T. helps individuals make unconscious feelings, thoughts, behaviors and actions conscious. With emotions present and available, individuals release repressed feelings that open the way for developing insight, change and recovery. While in the present moment, individuals realize their own personal power of choice and begin changing maladaptive patterns that negatively affect their lives.
